MY STORY
Born in Gwalior, Madhya PradeshMy love of Hindi began at home
I grew up in Gwalior — a historic city in central India, in the heart of Madhya Pradesh. From a very young age, I was surrounded by Hindi. My parents read Hindi books to me, and long before the internet, I spent hours at the National Library reading Hindi literature, poetry, and epics. Hindi became my favourite subject, and it has remained one of my greatest passions ever since.
I moved to New Zealand many years ago and have since made Wellington my home. The name Sheila's Hindi Classes honours my mother, Sheila — a woman whose love of the Hindi language lives on in every lesson I teach.

BEYOND THE CLASSROOM
A life shaped by Indian culture
Alongside teaching, I enjoy yoga, travelling, cooking, gardening, singing, and painting. I am also an Indian cooking instructor and have been teaching authentic Indian cooking classes to Wellingtonians for over 15 years. I have published food articles in newspapers and been interviewed about Indian cooking and culture.
